Temporary Henna Tattoo are popular alternative to permanent tattoo especially in the Southeast-Asia. However, the majority of Henna tattoos are not based on henna at all, but a substance called para-phenylenediamine (PPD), which is found in hair dyes. Severe contact dermatitis to PPD has been frequently reported, causing painful burn and blistering and even lead to scarring severe enough to require hospitalization. It also leave the person lifelong sensitivity to PPD, increases the risk of severe allergic reactions when they dye their hair in the future. With this increasing problem, we should raise awareness of the risks of body art.
